It is very easy to go to google, type in something you want to research and go to the first wiki page that pops up. I actually use wiki pages for useless information but have always been taught not to use is for educational purposes. Wiki pages allow anyone to write, edit and delete information whether they are educated in the topic or not. Because wiki pages are not valid resources, they are not to be used in research papers of any sort because of their validity. Wiki pages can be used in a positive way also by allow professionals in the same field to share information with each other. Information and research on topics can change daily and this would be a good way to stay connected on specific topics.
With the internet being so popular in today's society, it is very easy to connect with others through it. Online networking might not be the best way to network, but it is the easiest. Face to face networking is the best I believe. Face to face networking allows individuals to really get to know each other on more of a personal level. Face to face networking might not allow an individual to make connections with a lot of other people, but they are more intimate connections with a better understanding of each other.
Online networking allows individuals to network with hundreds of people whenever they choose. LinkedIn and Facebook allow people to connect with others with the touch of a button. It is very easy to go to an individuals page, read their biography and then connect with them. I believe Linkedin is the best website for networking because it is more professional. Although one can have many connections online, these connections are based off of a page and are not very personable.
LinkedIn and my Weebly webpage serve the same purpose, to provide others with information about myself and for future network purposes. I think LinkedIn and Weebly should be connected because it will serve the same purpose for me. Each website should have the other link on the page to allow others to go back and forth between pages. Employers on LinkedIn can see my webpage and think "wow this woman is a professional and serious about her work." Webpages add an extra spark to an individual's linked in page and will ultimately help them gain more connections or advance in a career.
LinkedIn and Facebook are similar in the fact that they both allow an individual to connect with other people except they serve different purposes. Facebook is there for an individual to connect with people for fun. Facebook users keep in touch with their family, old friends and new friends through writing on each other's wall. Linked in is a professional social site. This is to connect with professionals and employers. It allows individuals to find others who are passionate about their careers also. It allows individuals to search for jobs and find others who are like them.
The first app that I found very useful for education was Teacher's Assistant Pro. This app lets a teacher put down student's behavior on a daily basis. Tracking a student's behavior, negative or positive, will be beneficial for teacher's in the long run. Sundry Notes looks like an all around useful app for teacher's. A teacher can use this app and this app only because it is an all purpose application for the iPad. I really like that it allows for recordings. Some times its easier for teachers to record their thoughts or lectures compared to typing them on the iPad. The virtual graph paper that this application comes with can allow teacher's to do things that they would normally do on paper except normal iPad software does not have it.
I was surprised to see how many of these tools I actually use. I use at least 15 of the top 20 tools on a weekly basis. After the top 20, I am not familiar with a lot of the tools that were listed. This surprised me because I like to think I know a lot of what is available online to use for learning. Many of the tools that I am familiar with I use for this class specifically. LinkedIn moved up 11 spots since the previous year which is not surprising. Job opportunities are now available online and LinkedIn provides an individual opportunities that they might not get if they did not have LinkedIn. I believe LinkedIn will continue to move up spaces because of how useful this one website is to everyone. It allows for someone to connect with employers and see job openings all over the country. I was very skeptical at first and avoiding getting a LinkedIn but once I did I was very pleased with it. LinkedIn has allowed me to connect with past and current employers and I check the job board weekly for new opportunities.
My career goal is to become an athletic director at an university. As an athletic director, incorporating podcasts about teams, games and schedules would be a great way to keep everyone informed about the current athletic events. An athletic director should also take full advantage of mobile devices and electronics. Using electronics will keep coaches, players and the community involved with the athletic department and that is what is important. Athletic departments are now making applications available for smartphones to keep fans involved. If I was an athletic director I would make sure I used these applications to keep everyone involved.
